Six killed in hail of bullets at N12 taxi shooting

A deadly attack involving a taxi patrol vehicle has sparked a police manhunt as investigators work to establish a motive.

Police are on the hunt for suspects connected to a fatal shooting at the N12 Etwatwa off-ramp on Wednesday (June 17), reports Benoni City Times.

According to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, responding officers found a Toyota Corolla belonging to the Benoni Taxi Association (BTA) Taxi Patrol Unit and a white Renault Triber parked a few metres apart, both riddled with bullet holes.

“Five occupants of the Renault sustained fatal gunshot wounds,” Nevhuhulwi said.

“The driver, who had also been shot, was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Another passenger escaped unharmed.”

Three occupants of the Toyota were unharmed.

“No arrests have been made, and the motive for the incident is under investigation,” said Nevhuhulwi.

The BTA confirmed the incident, saying that some of its members were involved in the morning’s incident, but declined further comment.

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app.
