A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death, and a woman was left critically injured following an incident linked to the Dundee July music festival in northern KZN on Saturday night (July 18) and into the early hours of Sunday (July 19), reports Dundee Courier.

Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana said police responded to a complaint at Dundee Hospital early on Sunday where they found the body of a man who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Despite receiving medical attention, he died of his injuries.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the man was allegedly involved in an altercation with unidentified suspects at Battlefields Country Lodge, where an entertainment event was taking place. During the incident, he was allegedly stabbed before being transported to Dundee Hospital by ambulance,” Nkwanayana told the Courier.

A case of murder has been registered for investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage, and police investigations are continuing.

In addition to the fatal attack, Dundee SAPS reported that 10 cases of grievous bodily harm were opened following incidents over the course of the weekend. There were also numerous arrests for drunken driving in the Dundee area.

The incidents occurred during a busy weekend in Dundee, which hosted thousands of visitors attending the annual Dundee July horse racing event and associated entertainment activities. Police investigations are continuing.
