Free State stepfather in court over death of four-year-old boy

A child’s body was discovered at a cemetery in Malebogo, while bloodstained bedding and clothing were later found at a property linked to the victim.

A 24-year-old man is expected to appear before the Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (August, 11) in connection with the alleged murder of a four-year-old boy in Malebogo, reports Bloemfontein Courant.

According to Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane, police responded to a crime scene at the Old Cemetery in Malebogo, where the body of a child with severe injuries to the head was discovered wrapped in blankets and curtains. “A case docket of murder was opened, and preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was identified as a four-year-old boy from Malebogo,” Covane said.

Police subsequently visited the address linked to the victim, where bloodstained sections of the blankets and curtains, as well as clothing believed to belong to the deceased, were allegedly discovered.

A 24-year-old man, identified by police as the deceased’s stepfather, was arrested as a suspect in connection with the case. The investigation continues.
