Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt after four armed men dressed as police officers raided a farm in Morebeng and tortured the owner.

The suspects, who wore police uniforms and reflective jackets with their faces covered, held a farm worker at gunpoint before tying him up on Thursday (August 13) .

According to police, the suspects approached the worker and asked for his employer. The worker tried to flee, but one of the suspects threatened him with a firearm and restrained him.

Farmer tortured during three-hour ordeal

The suspects remained on the farm for about three hours before the farm owner arrived with two other workers.

The gunmen confronted the group and demanded access to a safe. When the farm owner initially said he did not have a safe, he was assaulted with a pick and sjambok.

Police said the suspects then cut the farmer’s fingers with a side-cutter in an attempt to force him to reveal the location of the safe key.

Firearms and stolen bakkie taken in getaway

After failing to break open the safe, the suspects eventually gained access and stole five rifles, a pistol, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash.

They also took a bank card and four cellphones.

The victims were tied up before the suspects demanded vehicle keys, and police confirmed one shot was fired during the robbery.

The suspects fled in a stolen white 1999 Toyota Hilux double-cab with registration BHY 893 L.

No arrests have been made and the suspects remain unidentified.

Police are continuing with the investigation.
