The police have arrested a 54-year-old South African man at OR Tambo International Airport after suspected cocaine was allegedly found concealed in his luggage, reports Kempton Express.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the arrest followed intelligence-led information about the suspect reportedly travelling to Hong Kong, China, when he was intercepted at the airport today (September 3).

A search of the man and his luggage allegedly led to the discovery of the suspected cocaine concealed inside the luggage.

Van Wyk said the exact weight and value of the drugs had not yet been determined and would be confirmed in due course.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (September 4) facing drug trafficking-related charges.

The arrest comes a week after police intercepted two separate consignments of cocaine at OR Tambo International Airport, with a combined estimated value of R200m.

Van Wyk added that police remain committed to disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking networks through intelligence-led operations and targeted interventions at ports of entry.
