KZN police have launched a manhunt for suspects after 11 people were killed and three others injured in a shooting in the Ziko area of KwaMakhutha last night (September 22) reports The Witness.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said preliminary information indicated that 14 people — 13 men and a woman believed to be pregnant — were attending a party inside a house when three men arrived and opened fire.

Ten victims, including the woman, died at the scene, while four were taken to hospital. One of those later succumbed to their injuries.

Netshiunda said preliminary investigations had revealed that some of the victims were on the Crime Intelligence radar in connection with alleged illegal activities.

He said police could not disclose further details at this stage as this could jeopardise the ongoing investigation.

“Although the motive of the shooting cannot be confirmed yet, feud between rival groupings cannot be ruled out,” said Netshiunda.
