Industrial machinery, drums of powder and bags of finished tablets reveal the scale of the operation discovered on a farm near the R563.

Police uncovered a suspected Mandrax manufacturing operation worth an estimated R100 million at a farm near Oaktree, where large quantities of tablets, drug powder and industrial equipment were found during a raid in the early hours of yesterday morning (October 8).

Krugersdorp News was given rare access to the laboratory, where containers and trays of fine powder used in the manufacturing process stood alongside industrial machines. Dozens of large bags containing completed Mandrax tablets were also found inside the building.

Police estimated the street value of the tablets at between R30 and R40 each.

The scene remained hazardous, with traces of drugs and chemicals in the air. Journalists entering the building had to wear respirators and were instructed not to touch anything.

A multidisciplinary police team, including K9 Search and Rescue, Tactical Response Teams and the Hawks, raided the property after suspects were allegedly caught in the act.

Investigators marked and numbered evidence as they continued processing the scene.
