Security guard fatally shot in Trichardt

A man was killed in Mpumalanga following a third armed invasion in just four days.

A security guard was shot in Trichardt today (November 8).

The guard was stationed at the premises of Duncron in Trichardt when burglars triggered the alarm. The guard investigated and was overpowered by a group of men. Nothing was stolen, reports Ridge Times.

Sources told Ridge Times that the guard was shot several times. He was rushed to Evander Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Trichardt police confirmed the shooting but have not yet released any further information.

Trichardt police spokesperson Sergeant Valencia Mashaba said a media statement would be issued soon.

In the meantime, a video taken by a Trichardt resident is circulating on social media, in which several gunshots can be heard.

This is reportedly the third incident since Thursday (November 5) in which burglars have invaded a property between 01:00 and 04:00, with all three incidents occurring while it was raining.

The Bucks family was attacked in their home in Schnetler Street, Trichardt, on Thursday.

Two young brothers, Qaeed and Imtiyaaz, were shot dead. Their father, Imraan, was wounded, and their mother, Amiena, was assaulted with a crowbar and a hammer. The attackers fled empty-handed.

Two days later, residents in Secunda’s Sector 2 were warned to be on high alert.

According to information shared by the Community Policing Forum’s Sector 2 management on its Facebook page, three men broke into a house in Volschenk Street at around 02:00 on yesterday (November 7).

One of the robbers was armed. They used the rain and bad weather to their advantage.

A woman in the house locked herself and her two young children in a room when the burglars entered.

“One of the suspects was arrogant enough to knock politely on the bedroom door,” the post reads.

Romans and Stratcon responded quickly, and SAPS also provided assistance.

Residents were urged to remain awake and alert, lock up and check on their neighbours, especially when it rains.
