Kidnapped Durban baby sold for R1 000 – police
The man who allegedly kidnapped a three-month-old baby girl and sold her for R1 000 is due to appear in court on Thursday.
Mbhasobhi Dlamini (39) was arrested in the Msinisini area last week, South Coast Herald reported.
This after he allegedly kidnapped the child from her mother’s house in Msinsini, near Hibberdene, earlier this month.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said investigations had led detectives to Durban and then back to Umzimkhulu, where they found the child.
“Dlamini had apparently sold the child for R1 000,” she said.
Wiid said Dlamini had been charged with kidnapping and appeared in court on Monday, where the case was postponed to Thursday for a bail application.
A second suspect involved in the kidnapping is still being sought by police.
The child has since been returned to her mother.
In a separate incident, a case of kidnapping is under investigation after the alleged kidnapping of 21-year-old Kimberleigh Smith at the Riverfield Shopping Centre in Petersfield, Ekurhuleni, in December.
Captain Johannes Ramphora of the Springs police told The Citizen a full investigation had been launched after the incident.
Ramphora confirmed Smith had been found inside a building in Ekurhuleni on the same day.
