Earlier today, one firefighter died after falling from the 23rd floor while trying to extinguish the flames of the fire burning at the Gauteng Provincial Health Department.

A further three firefighters were trapped inside, and were later rescued and taken to a hospital.

Initially, MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, had said that there are a further three firefighters trapped inside the burning building. A firefighting team is reportedly trying to assist them.

Mulaudzi added that a number of people who work in the building were treated for smoke inhalation.

The building is located on the corner of Sauer and Albertina Sisulu streets and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
