Carte Blanche presenter mugged in Bloem

Carte Blanche presenter Devi Sankaree Govender remains grateful for not being injured during a mugging incident in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.

Govender tweeted: “Still in shock but I’m ok. We have to finish our story and move on. Grateful I wasn’t stabbed or shot. Can’t replace life.”

This after saying on Twitter: “Just got #mugged in Bloem while working on a story. Chain ripped off my neck + the guy just sauntered off like nothing happened.”

The Carte Blanche team had been filming an insert outside Bophelo House, the provincial head office of the department of health, at the time of the incident, Netwerk24 reported.

This after four people appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court in connection with themugging of SABC journalists outside Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg last week.

The suspects were identified as Alfred Tlougameli, Clement Mncube, Pascal Junior and Modin Modin. They appeared on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and were expected to also face a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Video footage showing two men accosting SABC contributing editor Vuyo Mvoko went viral on YouTube.

Following the incident, the SA National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) said: “Every South African lives with the reality of crime, but to see thugs brazenly ignoring television cameras and robbing media workers in the course of their work, yet again brings home the level of criminality in our society”.
