Girl, 8, raped while waiting for school bus

A school in Clernaville, KwaZulu-Natal is tightening security after a Grade 2 pupil was allegedly raped while waiting to be transported from school.

The eight-year-old girl is receiving counselling after the experience, which was reported to have happened last week Friday outside Kranskloof Primary School, Highway Mail reported.

It is believed the child was left behind when the school bus came to fetch children at the school. An unidentified man allegedly lured the girl to his house, where he raped her.

Principal of the school, Thokozani Gabela, said this came as a shock to the school. “Although we do not have the exact details, we have reported the matter to the department of education. There are social workers that are dealing with this matter. From now on, children will wait for their transport inside the classrooms,” said Gabela.

He urged school bus drivers to make sure all the children are in the bus before they leave. No arrests have been made, while police investigations continue.

On the same day, a Free State girl was sent by her grandmother to a shop when she was forced to a house by a person known to her, where she was allegedly raped.

Tseki police in the Free State have arrested three suspects for the alleged rape of the 15-year-old girl from Chris Hani Park.

“The three suspects, aged between 24 and 29, from Chris Hani Park, Tseki Village are expected to appear before the Tseki Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 17, facing charges of rape and kidnapping,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.
