Woman hacked to death in Pta farm attack

An elderly woman has allegedly been hacked to death with an axe on a farm in Pretoria, Gauteng.

Pretoria businessman, Pierre Niemand, said he received a call on Friday morning informing him that his mother-in-law, Marlene Brits, 70, had been brutally murdered at his farm on Thursday,Rekord North reported.

Niemand said Brits had been living alone with her dogs. The foreman on the farm saw that a veld fire had broken out, and ran to the house. When he got there, he found a hole in the electric fence, and saw that Brits had been killed with an axe.

“The murder seemed to be part of a robbery. The robber had stolen her cell phone, some cash and had attempted to steal her car,” added Niemand.

Niemand said police forensic units were on the scene to investigate and had arrested someone who had apparently confessed to the murder.

More to follow.

In a separate incident, a group of six armed men attacked and robbed former police colonel Ansie Joubert, 57, and her husband Joep, 58, at their farm on the N4, 40km outside Mbombela, in March.

The couple returned home from a holiday at the seaside, and Ansie was busy unpacking in their bedroom when two armed men punched out the windowpane and pointed their guns at them. Joep lay down on the bed.

The attackers locked the couple into the bathroom and fled in Joep’s son’s Volkswagen Polo. They took a TV set, cash and the couple’s beloved four-month-old pug puppy.
