Parents drag daughter’s ‘rapist’ to police station
A 28-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Winnie Mandela Park in Tembisa, Kempton Park.
It is believed the suspect was apprehended by the parents of the victim after he was found by community members who heard the victim screaming for help during the incident last week. The man was later handed over to the Tembisa police, Tembisan reported.
Tembisa police spokesperson Captain Manydza Ralidzivha said the victim had accompanied her friend to her grandmother’s house in Ibaxa Section.
“They boarded a taxi to Ibaxa Section. There were three men inside the vehicle. She was then left alone in the vehicle. The taxi driver drove to Tshepo Section, claiming he wanted to see his friend. The victim tried to escape, but the taxi driver allegedly slapped her in the face,” said Captain Ralidzivha.
He added the suspect was believed to have forced the victim out of his vehicle and to his room, where he then allegedly overpowered and raped her.
“While he allegedly raped her, the victim screamed for help. Community members then knocked on the door. The residents insisted that the suspect stop forcing the victim to do something she does not want to do. The victim was taken to her home, where she told her mother about the incident.
“Her parents then apprehended the suspect. He was later brought to the Tembisa SAPS, where he was detained,” said Ralidzivha.
In January, Lenasia Police Station spokesperson Captain Hector Netshivhodza said residents taking the law into their own hands interrupted police investigations and made police work difficult.
This after the community was believed to have assaulted an alleged rapist, beating and stoning him.
Police opened an inquest docket after a suspect was assaulted and later died in hospital.
