Girl, 11, claims her father raped her

No arrest has been made after an 11-year-old girl broke her silence and reported the torturous rape she suffered allegedly by her father for more than a month in the Bhambayi area in KwaZulu-Natal.

Phoenix police communications officer, Lieutenant L. Naidoo, said it is alleged the girl’s father kept the child in the house and repeatedly raped her, refusing to let her leave the premises. The girl’s mum reported the 11-year-old missing at the Phoenix police station, Phoenix Sun reported.

It is believed the child was discovered to be missing after she failed to return from the fair recently held at the Rydalvale Grounds.

“The next day, the victim went back home and reported the incident to her mother, stating that it was not the first time that her father had raped her. She related that an incident had occurred at her home during the month of May. A case of rape has been registered and the arrest of the suspect is imminent,” added Naidoo.

“The rape of children, especially by a family member, is a heinous crime and perpetrators of such vile deeds deserve to be behind bars. The courts frown heavily upon such atrocities and perpetrators of such crimes will face the full brunt of the law,” said Naidoo.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old man was expected to appear in the Pine Town Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for the alleged rape of his seven-year-old daughter in KwaNqetho, Hillcrest in Durban.

Hillcrest police communications officer, Constable Ndumiso Manqele, said it is alleged the father was left in the house with his daughter as the mother was attending a parents’ meeting at a school in the area on Monday.

“After he raped the girl, he warned her not to tell anyone about what he had done.

“The mother did not suspect anything when she returned. When they were sleeping, the girl was feeling uneasy and restless and woke up in the middle of the night,” added Manqele.

Manqele said the mother thought the girl had flu, but she started crying and there was a bad smell in the house. The mother checked her daughter and realised that the girl had been raped.
