Boxer from Pretoria in action at African championships

One of Pretoria's most promising young boxers has been selected to represent South Africa at the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) Youth Championships in Guinea in the north-west of the continent.

While amateur boxing in South Africa is busy building new momentum in the dream of regaining proper representation for the country at the Olympic Games, a team of young boxers will test themselves against the best of the African continent this month.

One of the young men who will represent the country is the promising young South African champion in die 71kg weight division, Gideon Brown, a 17-year-old learner from HTS Tuine, who is also a member of the TUT Boxing Club.

Brown is one of the country’s most promising young boxers with a very consistent record at provincial and national level. His record includes silver medals in 2022 and 2023 at the national championships.

Having started his boxing journey in 2016, Brown has shown unwavering dedication and discipline, earning recognition not only for his talent but also for his sportsmanship.

His selection for the South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO) national youth team is a testament to his hard work and the support of his coaches at TUT Boxing club, as well as his family.

The young star also has great appreciation for the support of his school, which has nurtured an active amateur boxing culture for years and has produced many amateur champions.

As he heads to Guinea to compete on the continental stage, Gideon carries with him the hopes of a city and a nation and serves as an inspiration to many young athletes across South Africa.
