New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupé unveiled with 860kW
A German automaker has whipped the covers off an electric vehicle that completes a 0-100km/h sprint in 3.2s.
In June 2025, Mercedes-AMG whipped the wraps off the Concept AMG GT XX, a design study with which the German marque previewed a future high-performance four-door model … likely the next AMG GT 4-door coupé. Essentially the series-production version of the ‘pioneering’ concept, the Affalterbach automaker has officially unveiled the new AMG GT 4-door coupé.
The AMG GT 4-door coupé was revealed in two guises: GT 55 and GT 63. Both models are equipped with three of the firm’s so-called axial flux motors, which produce combined system outputs of 600kW/1 800Nm in the GT 55 and 860kW/2 000Nm in the GT 63. Power is delivered to the road via an all-wheel drivetrain. In AMGFORCE S+ driver’s setting, the powertrain produces an augmented V8 soundtrack and features simulated gear shifts.
Mercedes-AMG says these figures allow the GT 55 to complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 2.8s, before breaching the 200km/h marker 6.2s later, at 9.0s. The GT 63 dispatches the 0-100km/h dash in a claimed 2.4s, and the 0-200km/h in 6.8s. Both models top out at 300km/h when specified with the drivers package.
For comparison, the previous GT 63 S 4-door coupé equipped with the firm’s (470kW/900Nm) 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 completes the obligatory 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 3.2s, while the (620kW/1 470Nm) GT 63 S E performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV) reaches the 100km/h marker from a standstill in a claimed 2.9s.
The e-motors are fed by a Formula 1-derived 800V battery, which provides an operating range of up to 700km in the GT 55 and 696km in the GT 63. Mercedes-AMG says a 10-80% DC fast charge takes only 11 minutes, with a 10-minute charge at such a facility adding 460km of range.
Based on the carmaker’s AMG.EA platform, the AMG GT 4-door coupé measures 5 094mm in length and 1 959mm in width; making it 40mm longer and 20mm wider than its forebear. The wheelbase is longer, too – 3 040 vs 2 951mm. The EV has a kerb weight of 2 460kg – an increase of 413kg over the ICE-only GT 63 S 4-door coupé. However, it weights slightly less (down 38kg) than the GT 63 S E Performance PHEV.
