Adopt healthy hand-washing habits with Happy Hands
An organisation is encouraging pupils to adopt regular hand-washing habits.
Liverpool Road-based non-profit organisation Happy Hands was founded earlier this year, with the aim of educating pupils about the importance of hygiene and providing them with a convenient way of preventing the spread of diseases.
The organisation runs an ongoing “Be Wise and Sanitize Campaign”, in which they visit pre-schools and primary schools in the Benoni area.
This campaign is based on the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) plan to provide vulnerable young people with health education.
Founder of Happy Hands, Imraan Guman, said the campaign aims to educate youngsters on the dangers of bacteria, create a habit of ensuring hands are kept clean and help to decrease illnesses such as trachoma (a contagious bacterial infection of the eye), influenza and ebola.
“The second phase of the campaign is to install a dispenser in each classroom, which will be monitored and refilled on a regular basis,” added Guman.
“At the end of this campaign, we hope that the youth will have learned the dangers of bacteria and the importance of hand hygiene.”
Happy Hands is in need of sponsors to donate hand sanitizers.
