If you travel with your pets, leave them with a sitter, or live in an area where there are ticks or venomous snakes, it’s a good idea to have a first-aid kit on hand. From your pet insurance details to essential medication for those just-in-case scenarios, here’s a useful checklist.

  • Your telephone number plus a friend or neighbour’s
  • Your vet’s details
  • A 24-hour emergency vet number
  • Animal poison control contact
  • Medications and dosages
  • Medical records
  • Pet insurance details
  • Microchip records

Medication

Remember to check expiry dates

  • Antiseptic cleanser
  • A wound ointment
  • Anti-itch cream
  • Antihistamine (ask your vet to recommend one)
  • Calming medication for thunderstorms and fireworks
  • Saline eye solution
  • Ear cleanser
  • Charcoal powder for diarrhea or poisoning
