Springbok Eben Etzebeth’s garage has as much muscle as he does
Toyota Hilux? Range Rover? Suzuki Spresso? What does the Springboks’ largest and arguably most intimidating player, Eben Etzebeth, drive?
Turns out Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth likes new wheels almost as much as he likes winning rugby world cups.
At more than 2m (and some change) tall, we’d love to see the green-and-gold adorned giant piloting a petite Suzuki Celerio. In actuality, Etzebeth’s taste in the car seems to have led to many instances behind the wheel of large and luxurious vehicles. Typically, the Bokke’s world-renowned lock has been seen at the helm of Range Rovers, Defenders, a V6-powered Amarok and the occasional British sports car.

In 2022, Etzebeth revealed he had added a Volkswagen 3.0 V6 TDI 4Motion Double Cab bakkie. As a quick recap, the three-litre turbo-diesel powerplant that powers the Amarok is capable of a maximum power output of 190kW and 580Nm. Mated to the V6 is an eight-speed automatic transmission. Distinguishing performance traits include a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 200km/h. It has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3 500kg, but we’re sure Etzebeth could pull the same weight if he tried.

Earlier this year, Etzebeth and his wife, Analia, joined the Mercedes-Benz FOTB programme (Friend Of The Brand). Mercedes-Benz South Africa announced the Springboks player would spend one year behind the wheel of a white Mercedes GLE 400 d, and Anlia would pilot the latest GLC 300 d model.

In 2021, Etzebeth posted a photo in which he was flanked by two iconic American muscle cars, The Dodge Challenger SRT and Ford Mustang S550. However, we’re not sure who has more muscle, the cars or Etzebeth.
