Cheesy fries with crispy bacon bits

This oven-baked delight is not only easy to whip up but also a scrumptious option for a snack or side dish.

Dive into the ultimate comfort food with cheesy fries topped with crispy bacon bits, a quick and indulgent Tuesday night treat. This combination of golden fries smothered in melted cheese and sprinkled with crunchy bacon offers the perfect blend of gooey, savoury, and crisp textures. Recipe compliments of McCain.

McCain’s Stay Crisp Chips are coated in a light gluten-free batter that will give your meals that x-factor. These chips allow for quick preparation time and have a longer hold than conventional, non-coated fries.

Ingredients

  • 100g McCain Stay Crisp Chips
  • 80g Cheddar Cheese, grated
  • 3 rashers Streaky Bacon, cut into stripes
  • 1 stalk Spring Onion, sliced
  • 20g Butter
  • 20g Flour
  • 125ml Milk

Method

  1. Add McCain Stay Crisp Chips in a baking tray. Season with salt then bake until cooked and crispy.
  2. In the meantime, make the cheese sauce. Melt butter in a pot and mix in flour. Gradually add milk and keep whisking until the sauce is smooth and lump-free. Remove from heat, then stir in half of the cheddar cheese.
  3. Fry bacon and drain, then set aside. Remove chips from the oven, top with the remaining cheese, and bake until the cheese has melted.
  4. Remove from the oven then drizzle cheese sauce on top, finish off with bacon stripes and spring onion. Serve hot.
