Mr Thela set to release ‘Buya Nini’

Fans are waiting in anticipation for Mr Thela’s new single, ‘Buya Nini’.

Dubbed the pioneer of Cape Town gqom, Mr Thela has taken the local music scene by storm.

Branching into a genre that’s popular in KZN, the Cape Town-born music producer and DJ has given new life to a genre that has been on a steady decline across the country.

The social media teasers for the release of Buya Nini have amassed a warm reception from his growing fan base. The track has all the elements of a gqom track, from the pulsating bassline to the kick drum and chants, yet draws inspiration from vocal riffs you would typically find in a maskandi track, sung by the talented vocalist, Peace.

Mr Thela reunites with Peace, who first worked with the artist on the popular track My Mother’s Prayer from his second joint album Make Cape Town Great Again 2.0.

The release of Buya Nini marks new music since the release of his critically acclaimed album Tronics Land Series 2 in November. The album single Kwandonga Ziyaduma, an unexpected collaboration with amapiano heavyweight Njelic, has gone gold, according to the Recording Industry of South Africa.

A viral sensation, Mr Thela shot to fame during lockdown and has since grown in popularity across the country and internationally.

Following his international tours in the United Kingdom and South Korea, the renowned DJ has been on an upward trajectory. He has become popular on social media platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, with fans reacting to his live sets across the country.

This month, Mr Thela became the first gqom artist to be featured and play a mix on the popular music channel Groove Cartel, aimed at presenting the best in local and international stars.

He has a long career ahead of him and has all the traits of an international superstar. Buya Nini is a groove banger that will dominate the airwaves and online platforms upon its release and beyond.
