4 tips to oxygenate your skin for a healthy glow

Did you know that you can improve the appearance of your skin by oxygenating it? This is how.

If your skin looks dull and tired, it could be due to a lack of oxygen. Without sufficient oxygen, the skin is unable to maintain its natural vitality, which can lead to fine lines and wrinkles, as well as an overall dull, tired and exhausted appearance.

Well-oxygenated skin should be firmer, plumper and fresher – who doesn’t like the sound of that? To achieve just that, try these four tips from Dermalogica to improve oxygenation:

Give yourself a massage: Regular, gentle facial massage can help release the tension in your muscles, as well as stimulate circulation to the skin—bringing oxygen-rich blood to skin’s surface. Shiatsu massage techniques are a great option; you can also use Gua Sha stones or facial rollers.

Take a deep breath: When we draw in deep breaths, excess carbon dioxide is flushed from our system, leading to increased oxygen that energises the skin. And the combination of deep breathing + meditation work help bring oxygen to your entire body (skin included)! For guidance on deep breathing exercises, download a free meditation app or look for breathing exercises and guided meditations online. This is an excellent way to revitalise your skin and your mind!

Get moving: No need to run a marathon, even gentle exercise, like a brisk 15-minute walk, is an excellent way to boost circulation at the skin’s surface. As a bonus, it will also boost skin’s natural glow!

Exfoliate regularly: Besides being a tried and tested skin-care routine staple, exfoliating is also an easy and effective way to boost circulation, which, in turn, brings more oxygen to skin’s surface! Another plus is that exfoliating also makes it easier for your other skin care products to do their jobs effectively – the ultimate win-win. Opt for a gentle exfoliant like Daily Milkfoliant, which polishes skin while supporting the moisture barrier.
