Nigerian rapper shares his side to viral Cape Town crash

From viral crash to hospital selfie: Nigerian rapper 3Gar Baby shares his story after a dramatic McLaren incident in Cape Town.

Nigerian rapper 3Gar Baby is speaking out after footage of his dramatic crash in Cape Town sent shockwaves through social media over the weekend.

The gripping clip, filmed on Sea Point’s High-Level Road, shows a McLaren supercar roaring down the suburban street at high speed before slamming into the pavement.

The car’s screeching tyres and near-miss with other vehicles made it clear things were out of control, sparking immediate reactions from stunned viewers.

The video quickly went viral, igniting heated online debates.

But 3Gar Baby insists there is more to the story. Responding to a comment from @kellysettings, who wrote: “I thank God for saving your life bro. But that was really reckless on your path (sic),” the rapper acknowledged he was partly to blame but clarified that the footage did not capture the full picture.

According to 3Gar Baby, the crash happened as he was swerving to avoid hitting a beggar who suddenly appeared in his path.

The moment of panic, he says, caused him to lose control of the car. He hit the pavement with a loud thud but managed to steer away from colliding with the vehicle ahead of him.

While the debate continues online, the crash has sparked a larger conversation about street safety, the dangers of high-performance vehicles in urban areas, and driver responsibility.

On Saturday, sharp-eyed users on X (formerly Twitter) quickly identified the McLaren driver as 3Gar Baby.

They pieced it together by matching the outfit he was wearing in the crash video to the one in a video he had posted earlier that day – his Louis Vuitton denim set and chunky white sneakers.

In the aftermath of the crash, 3Gar Baby was seen sitting in a dazed state, blood trickling down his face. Paramedics arrived to find two injured individuals at the scene – 3Gar Baby and what is believed to be his passenger.

Later, the rapper posted a selfie from the hospital on Instagram, deeply thankful for his survival.

He wrote: “Nah, small thing remain. Could’ve been all over! I can’t stop thanking God for life.” He also urged his followers to keep his passenger in their prayers.
