Paprika prawns with creamy butter sauce served with green salad

The natural sweetness of prawns pairs beautifully with the smokiness of paprika and the rich, savoury kick of Worcestershire sauce.

There’s something about cooking seafood that often intimidates home cooks. Maybe it’s the delicate timing or the fear of overcooking it. But prawns are surprisingly easy and quick to make.

Ingredients

  • Fresh prawns (enough for your family)
  • 4 knobs of butter (divided)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • A few sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (or to taste)
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • A splash of cream
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Green salad and crusty bread, to serve

Method

  1. Clean and devein the prawns.
  2. Heat a pan and melt two knobs of butter. Add the prawns, season with salt and pepper, and fry for about 8 minutes, or until pink and cooked through.
  3. In a separate pot, melt another knob of butter and add the chopped onion. Sauté until soft.
  4. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, paprika, lemon juice, and cream. Whisk well until smooth and velvety. Add the final knob of butter for extra richness.
  5. Pour the sauce over the cooked prawns in the pan and stir to coat evenly.
  6. Serve hot with a crisp green salad, lemon wedges, and crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
