Thirteen eThekwini Municipality workers have been arrested at municipal offices in Springfield Park, Durban.

According to the local police, the suspects are aged between 36 and 59 years and were arrested for contravention of a court order, damage to infrastructure and malicious damage to property.

The arrest comes after a group of municipal employees had gathered at the municipal offices on Electron Road amid a strike by workers which erupted on February 27.

In a statement, police said: “They allegedly put sand and burnt trees. They were forcing other employees out of the offices and damaged the gate.”

SAPS added the suspects will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
