19-year-old to appear in court after rape of 8-year-old girl in Musina

A foreign national teenager is expected in court today to face charges of rape and contravening the Immigration Act.

A 19-year-old foreign national has been arrested by Musina police after the rape of an eight-year-old girl. According to Polokwane Review, the suspect also faces charges of contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba stated that the incident happened at the victim’s home in Matswale Phase Two, Musina, on Sunday.

“The child was left in the care of her uncle, the suspect, while her mother went to visit an inmate at the Musina Police Station. The mother returned home at around 12:15, and the suspect left. In the evening, the victim began complaining of pain in her private parts. She then told her mother that her uncle had raped her and that it was not the first time. The suspect had allegedly told her not to tell anyone,” Mashaba’s statement read.

The victim’s mother confirmed the act of rape at a medical facility before reporting the case to Musina SAPS. The police Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit launched an investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

Mashaba said the suspect will appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court today, on charges of rape and contravening the Immigration Act.
