A multidisciplinary police team has arrested two men allegedly involved in a conspiracy to murder former Knysna mayor and Ward 8 councillor Aubrey Tsengwa, reports Knysna-Plett Herald.

Tsengwa (47) was shot dead on Wednesday (August 19). Three other people were wounded in the shooting.

Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the two suspects, aged 39 and 46, were arrested on Saturday (August 22) by a team comprising Serious Violent Crime detectives, Crime Intelligence, local police, the combat team and the drone unit.

Police charged the men after questioning them, and they are expected to appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court today (24 August).

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi confirmed the arrests, which police say could help establish a possible motive for the killing.

Police also seized two vehicles, three firearms and several cellphones as part of the investigation.

“The search for more suspects continues, with investigators setting their sights on further arrests,” says Potelwa.

Knysna police have opened a case of murder and three cases of attempted murder. Police believe the investigation could shed light on the motive behind the shooting.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the alleged conspiracy or the identities of the two accused.

The investigation remains ongoing.
