The Civil Aviation Authority’s Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) has deployed a team to the site of an accident involving a Bat Hawk aircraft that occurred in Grasslands in Centurion this morning.

A pilot and a passenger were on board the aircraft when the accident occurred, the AIID said in a statement.

Both of them died and the aircraft was substantially damaged.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the AIID team was dispatched to the accident site to collect evidence, which will define the size and scope of the investigation once more information becomes available.

A preliminary report will be issued in 30 days, the CAA said.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen, medics responded to the accident just after 08:00.

“Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies responded to the Sunderland Ridge area in Centurion for a light aircraft crash,” says Van Reenen.

“On arrival on scene, an aircraft was found to have crashed in a field.”
