Investigation teams dispatched to Centurion plane crash
The Accident and Incident Investigations Division has said that a Bat Hawk aircraft was substantially damaged in the accident
The Civil Aviation Authority’s Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) said that it had deployed a team to the site of an accident involving a Bat Hawk aircraft that occurred in Grasslands in Centurion on Sunday.
“A pilot and a passenger were on board the aircraft when the accident occurred,” the AIID said in a statement, adding “Both of them were fatally injured during the accident sequence and the aircraft was substantially damaged.”
The CAA said the AIID team was dispatched to the accident site to collect evidence.
The evidence will define the size and scope of the investigation once more information becomes available.
In a statement, the CAA said, “A preliminary report will be issued in 30 days from the day of this accident.”
According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle Van Reenen, medics responded to the accident just after 08:00 on Sunday morning.
“Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies responded to the Sunderland Ridge area in Centurion for a light aircraft crash,” said Van Reenen, adding, “On arrival on scene an aircraft was found to have crashed in a field.”
