2 years in jail for husband who shared photos of estranged wife in KZN

A man from Newcastle is trading his comfortable bed for a jail cell after leaking his estranged wife’s intimate photos to a fellow church-goer.

A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for sharing intimate photos and videos of his estranged wife without her consent.

According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle Police Corporate Communications Department, the victim received a message from her estranged husband on April 15 last year. In the message, he informed her that he intended distributing ‘pornographic’ content she had sent him while they were happily married, reports Newcastle Advertiser.

He allegedly went on to share the material with a woman who attended the same church as the victim.

Court finds accused guilty

The accused was formally charged with knowingly distributing private sexual photos and videos. He was found guilty last month in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to two years in prison.

Arumugam said the investigating officer, Sergeant Thokozani Mthimkhulu, demonstrated outstanding investigative skills, which were instrumental in bringing the accused to justice.

Police commend investigating officer

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences commander, Lieutenant Colonel SL Chapi, commended Mthimkhulu for his dedication and excellent work in securing the conviction.
