Sebenza SAPS have confirmed that three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting and killing of South African racing champion Robert Wolk in Esther Park, Kempton Park, on September 16, reports Kempton Express.

According to police, one arrest was made on the night of September 18, while two further arrests were made on the morning of September 19.

Wolk, 41, was shot and killed while on his way to catch a flight to Cape Town, where he was due to compete in a race.

South African motorsport has been mourning the celebrated touring car champion since his death.

Gauteng police previously confirmed that Wolk was shot at the corner of Camwood Street and Portland Drive.

He was declared dead at the scene. An Audi vehicle believed to belong to the victim was also found at the scene.

A murder case was opened following the shooting.

According to information gathered at the scene, Wolk’s Audi had collided with a Volkswagen Jetta. He reportedly got out of his vehicle to assess the damage before an argument allegedly broke out.

Video footage of the incident subsequently circulated on social media. The footage appears to show Wolk speaking to the other driver before a firearm is produced and he is apparently shot.

The footage also appears to show the shooter retrieving an item from the ground before leaving the scene.
