3 dogs found dead in plastic bag in Westville
Rescuers are unsure if the three dogs died elsewhere and were then placed into the black plastic bag, or if they were still alive when they were put into the bag.
The carcasses of three dogs were found in a black rubbish bag, that was placed inside a 44 gallon drum, off Syringa Avenue in Westville yesterday (6 December).
ProAct Neighbourhood Watch’s Andreas Mathios was alerted to the incident by a group of animal rescuers who were searching for a dog that had gone missing from the Westville area.
The rescuers reported smelling a horrible stench in the area they were searching and initially thought the dog they were looking for was dead.
When the group approached the specific area they found two 44 gallon drums, black plastic bags filled with rubbish and a swarm of flies.
“When they tipped the drum over they found a plastic bag with three dog carcasses,” said Mathios.
He said they were placed there about 7 to 10 days ago.
“We are not sure if the dogs died somewhere and were put in the black plastic bag and dumped there or if they were still alive when they were put in the black plastic bag,” said Mathios.
Westville SAPS attended the scene.
