3 killed in Soweto: Law enforcement on the scene

Motorists in Mofolo have been advised to use alternative routes following a shooting in which three people have died.

Three men were reportedly fatally wounded after a shooting along Mahalefele Road and Nape Avenue in Mofolo Central in Soweto earlier today.

This is according to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), which has warned motorists and residents to proceed with caution in the area.

At the time of publishing, Soweto Urban reported that law enforcement officials and emergency services were on the scene.

“Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when driving in the vicinity of Mahalefele Road, Mofolo Central, as vehicles are being diverted at Machaba Drive and Mageza Street,” says JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.

Motorists should expect potential road closures, traffic diversions and increased congestion in the area as authorities manage the scene.

“We advise them to avoid Mahalefele Road towards Mofolo Central, coming from Dube. Motorists can use Mncube Drive, Leselinyana and Kinini streets to get to Machaba Drive and from Zulu Drive. Motorists can use Machaba Drive as an alternative route,” adds Fihla.
