3 people held hostage at Durban fast-food restaurant

Paramedics remain on standby while negotiations for the release of the hostages continues.

An alleged hostage situation is unfolding at the McDonalds on Berea Road in Durban.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, one suspect has taken three people hostage at the establishment, and negotiations are underway.

Unconfirmed reports are that the suspect, a former employee of the fast food chain, is armed with a knife.

Jamieson confirmed that as of 14:12 on Tuesday, there had been no reports of injuries, but that ‘paramedics remain on standby’.
