4 security guards shot dead in KZN

Four people died and another was seriously injured after gunmen opened fire on them.

Police in KZN have launched a manhunt for at least four gunmen who shot and killed four security guards on Gillham Road in Phoenix today.

According to the SAPS, four armed men, travelling in a red Toyota Tazz, got out of their vehicle and fired shots at security guards who were reportedly performing their duties at an office.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says four security guards were declared dead and another one was rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries.

“It is not yet clear what kind of business activity is conducted at the office where the shooting happened. It is also suspected that the [gunmen] robbed the victims of their firearms before fleeing from the scene.”

Several emergency services and security companies responded to the crime scene.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the shooting to contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
