5 women to appear in court after Johannesburg airport drug bust

Police have arrested five suspected drug mules at OR Tambo International Airport after finding drugs worth more than R5m concealed on their bodies.

SAPS in collaboration with Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), arrested five South African women for drug trafficking at OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday, reports Kempton Express.

According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the suspects were found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value exceeding R5m, concealed on their bodies.

“A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were en route to China via Dubai,” said Van Wyk.

Police discovered the drugs hidden in the suspects’ sneakers, underwear and private parts during a search.

The five suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on tomorrow facing charges related to drug trafficking.

Investigations are ongoing.
