6 security guards charged with Gauteng man’s murder

The victim was allegedly attacked after he broke a TLB window in Bekkersdal near Randfontein.

Six security guards have been charged with the murder of a young man (22) who was allegedly assaulted by them after an incident last Friday where the window of a TLB (Tractor Loader Backhoe) was allegedly broken by the victim.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane says incident which occurred at around 20:00, left the community of Tambo in Bekkersdal shocked and baying for revenge.

“It is alleged that the victim was on his way home with friends from a drinking spree when he picked a stone and threw over the fence hitting a TLB machine that was parked at the site, breaking its window.

It is further alleged that when the security guards heard the noise, they gave chase, grabbed the victim, dragged him inside the yard and started assaulting him.

“During this time, the friends ran to call for help and the police were also summoned. The victim was certified dead by the EMS on the scene,” says Lefakane.

He says four security officers were placed under arrest after the incident and two more were arrested the following day.

All six accused have been denied bail and will remain in custody until their next appearance for bail application.
