6-year-old raped in Mpumalanga: Ethiopian man remanded in custody

An Ethiopian man appeared in the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court after a six-year-old girl from Arnot was raped on Thursday.

An Ethiopian man accused of raping a six-year-old girl from Arnot, Mpumalanga, is remanded in custody after his arrest and court appearance.

Middelburg Observer reports the 27-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in connection with the rape of the six-year-old on Thursday at around 18:00 after she was sent to buy something from a local tuck shop.

According to feedback from the National Prosecuting Authority, the suspect appeared in the Hendrina Magistrate’s Court yesterday and the case was postponed until next Monday for a formal bail application and an interpreter.

The suspect remains in custody.
