7 dead after bus and truck collide near Bloemfontein

A further 52 people sustained various injuries after the collision on the N8 earlier this morning.

Following a major accident involving an Interstate bus and a truck that took place on the N8 near Bloemfontein early this morning, seven people were declared dead on the scene. This includes both drivers and five passengers.

According to the Department of Health, there were more than 60 passengers on board of which three were critically injured, 19 moderately injured and 32 had minor injuries.

The patients were transported to Botshabelo Hospital (22), Moroka Hospital (9), Pelonomi Trauma Hospital (6) and Life Rosepark Hospital (1).

“The Department of Health will be keeping check on what is happening to those who are at hospitals,” says the department’s spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi.
