7 shot dead in tavern outside Klerksdorp

Police are combing the scene where seven people were murdered at a drinking establishment.

Seven people were killed early this morning at a tavern in Extension 13 in Kanana, near Orkney, outside Klerksdorp.

According to a statement issued by the SAPS, ‘the suspects reportedly arrived at the tavern looking for Basotho [people]’.

They randomly fired shots, instantly killing seven people – a woman and six men.

Several others were injured.

The perpetrators then took the CCTV system, cash from the till and a snooker table. They also robbed patrons of their cellphones, before fleeing the scene, police said.

At the time of publishing, police were still combing the scene.

The motive is yet to be determined and no arrests have been made.

SAPS North West commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has condemned the murders.
