97% votes counted: ANC firmly in control of Limpopo
Here are the updated results for Limpopo and Polokwane in the 2021 Local Government Elections - Day 3.
On Thursday morning the ANC leads the provincial vote count with 68.53%, followed by the EFF with 14.1% and the DA with 5.45%.
With 97% of the total votes that have been captured the ANC has thus far secured 681 seats, the EFF 119 seats and the DA 58 seats.
The Independent Electoral Commission’s provincial electoral officer, Nkaro Mateta earlier announced that voter turnout in the province stood at 46.3%. According to Mateta, the low voter turnout is a multifaceted phenomenon influenced by various factors such as disruptions to services, levels of trust in political institutions and unwarranted attacks on the commission.
