AECI directors visit Modderfontein plant to ensure spread of Covid-19 is limited

Acknowledging the challenges which the recent pandemic places on businesses and employees, Edwin Ludick, AECI Mining Explosives’ managing director, and Morne Stiglingh, Global Support Services executive, dedicated their time to visit the nitrates plant in Modderfontein on June 1.

Coal is a critical input resource for the production of electricity.

The historic AECI mining company was also categorised as an essential service during the lockdown as they provide commercial explosives to South Africa’s coal mines.

AECI’s public relations officer Lehlohlonolo Tsotsetsi said the purpose of the visit was to meet with management and supervisors to ensure that systems and processes were in place to limit the spread of Covid-19 at the workplace.

“In an unprecedented time, the world around leans on resilient leadership to not only get through the pandemic but to restore and maintain continuity in the safest manner possible,” said Lehlohonolo.

During the visit, Edwin reinforced the ‘we are our brother’s keeper’ message to employees.

“This message is a reminder to us all. If we protect ourselves from the Covid-19 virus, we also protect the well-being of those around us.”

Lehlohonolo added the pandemic provided them with an opportunity to strengthen their focus on zero harm principle.

“Let us unite in ensuring zero harm to our loved ones, colleagues and communities.”
