Alleged baby stealer granted bail after theft of week old infant

A woman had allegedly stolen an infant, seven days old at the time, from his 17-year-old mother at Mtubatuba.

A 20-year-old who was arrested on 13 September, a day after she allegedly stole a young baby from his unsuspecting teenage mother, is due back in court on October 21.

This after the suspect, Siphokazi Nqobile Dube, appeared at the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday where she was granted R1 500 bail.

Dube had allegedly stolen the infant, seven days old at the time, from his 17-year-old mother at Mtubatuba.

Dube was arrested at Hlabisa Hospital after staff there realised that she fitted the description which was circulating widely on social media, of the suspect clad in a yellow dress.

Following Dube’s arrest, the baby was reunited with his mother.
