Alleged fake cop arrested over Meyerton murder
What began as an investigation into the death of a suspected robber took a turn when a Gauteng man wearing a police jacket was arrested.
Police in Meyerton have arrested a 31-year-old man following a fatal shooting and assault on Kiewiet Street in Meyerton Park yesterday (June 1), reports Sedibeng Ster.
According to police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini, officers arrived at the scene to find the body of a man lying motionless in the street with severe, bloody injuries to his face.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had been caught and beaten by community members after he allegedly carried out an armed robbery in the area.
ER24 attended the scene and declared the injured robbery suspect deceased as a result of his brutal head injuries.
While officers were at the scene, they noticed a man wearing a police jacket. When they approached and interviewed him, they discovered he had a bruised mouth and blood stains on his face and hands.
Zazini said the man was immediately isolated and questioned.
