Alleged fake optometrist and friend arrested in Mpumalanga
Two suspects are due to appear in court today after a firearm, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine were found in their possession.
Two Nigerian foreign nationals were arrested on Friday in White River, Mpumalanga, for allegedly contravening the Medicine and Related Substance Act 101 of 1965 and Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
According to provincial Hawks’ spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, the Hawks received information regarding a Nigerian national (42) suspected of drug dealing and practising as an illegal optometrist in White River.
A search and seizure warrant was authorised and executed at the property on Friday.
“During the search, a firearm, four rounds of ammunition and a magazine were found in the suspect’s car and seized.

“A laboratory used to manufacture spectacles was found at his place,” says Sekgotodi.
The suspect and his friend (44) were arrested. Both failed to produce passports.
The duo were charged and detained pending their first court appearance in the White River Magistrate’s Court today.
