Alleged hijackers nabbed while fleeing Pretoria mall, 1 shot

A man is in hospital under police guard after being shot during a robbery.

Two men, alleged to have committed an armed robbery and hijacking, were arrested in Mabopane Square in Pretoria.

One of them was shot while trying to escape authorities.

On Monday at 11:00, police on patrol at Mabopane Square responded to a gunshot they heard near Nak Cash Loans.

On arrival, they noticed a man leaving the scene and running out of the complex.

The police ran after the man and followed him on foot as he entered the Cash Build yard, where he was apprehended.

His accomplice was shot by a guard, next to Nak Cash Loans.

“The suspects are linked [to] an attempted robbery with a firearm,” says police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.

The complainant, who works for The Courier Guy, alleges that the two tried to rob him of the parcels he was delivering at Mabopane Square, says Van Dyk.

Police recovered the firearm, which was found lying next to the injured suspect.

The injured suspect was transported to a nearby hospital under police guard and will be charged with attempted hijacking, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
