Another dam wall collapses in Jagersfontein

A provincial disaster team has been sent to the Free State town of Jagersfontein after yet another dam wall has burst.

Another mine dam wall has burst in the mining town of Jagersfontein in the Free State yesterday.

The Premier of the Free State, Sefora Ntornbela confirmed the incident in a media statement and said the provincial government was working to establish the extent of the water flow.

“It is understood that the water is running through the neighbourhood of Charlesville and the nearby Dennis Louw Farm.”

According to the statement, the R706 was closed to traffic and motorists were advised to use an alternative gravel road to Fauresmith to access Jagersfontein.

The police and emergency services were on the scene while Ntombela called for the community not to panic as a provincial disaster team was activated to the area.
