Aquadome in Vanderbijlpark temporarily closed after drowning

The boy was removed from the water by a lifeguard who performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Emerald Resort and Casino’s indoor waterpark, Aquadome, will be closed until Wednesday after an eight-year-old boy drowned on Sunday.

Mark Hands, MD at the resort, confirmed the incident.

“An eight-year-old boy was playing in the pool when he came into difficulty and was removed from the water by one of our team of lifeguards. CPR was administered at the scene until the paramedics arrived and tried unsuccessfully to revive the child,” Hands says.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident and our thoughts and prayers go out the child’s family and the team members involved at this difficult time,” says Hands.

The Aquadome will remain closed for the next few days while counselling is offered to the family and Emeralds team members.
