Armed robbers bomb CIT van and flee with cash in KZN

Armed robbers ambushed a CIT van on the R102, using explosives to steal an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing.

A group of cash-in-transit (CIT) officers were lucky to escape with their lives after being fired on in a brazen robbery yesterday afternoon.

The heist happened on the R102 between Mandeni and Gingindlovu just after 16:00, the North Coast Courier reports.

Reports indicate that the armed robbers first forced the escort car off the road, before tackling the CIT van.

They used explosives to gain entry to the van and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick, the men in the escort vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

The R102 was closed in both directions to allow for police investigation and crime scene clearing.
